Ms. Paul was raised in Oroville and in 1998 began working for a wholesale fine jewelry manufacturer while in high school. Robert Huson, Vice President of Operations
Asbestos and Lead Abatement Division Manager
Robert Huson joined Steamatic in September 2009 as the manager of the company’s new asbestos and lead abatement division. His past experience covered everything from removing underground storage tanks, to cleaning up Soviet military bases in Hungary to the complete removal of lead-based paint and asbestos from a navy tugboat.
Most of Mr. Huson’s asbestos and lead abatement experience stems from his association with three of the seven companies where he worked or that he owned during his 25-year environmental career.
Mr. Huson was the operations manager in charge of 135 employees when he worked for Phillips Services, of Benicia, one of the largest environmental firms in the country between 2003 and 2006. He helped manage a $1 million plus project for the Martinez Sanitation Department removing lead, chrome and zinc-based paint and resurfacing three 160 foot diameter clarifiers under complete containment. During this project, Mr. Huson received a Golden Eagle award from Cal OSHA for safety, the first time it had been given out in the Bay Area.
Between 1999 and 2003, Mr. Huson worked for a division of Complete Decon, an asbestos abatement and demolition company in Benicia with 50 employees. As a senior project manager, Mr. Huson worked closely with all supervisors and technicians overseeing large projects that included the asbestos abatement and demolition of 1428 housing units at Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato and for a tomato factory in Tracy. He also managed many large floor and roof asbestos abatement jobs throughout the Bay area.
Between 1991 to 1996, Mr. Huson was executive vice president of Earthco Environmental Service in Sacramento, a hazardous waste transportation and disposal company with 15 employees. His asbestos experience there included the transportation and disposal of asbestos containing materials, fiber cement boards, dry wall, floor tile and mastic. As the senior project manager on all government projects Mr. Huson worked closely with the United States Ready Reserve Fleet, mostly testing for asbestos and PCB-containing materials on navy ships at Mare Island. His largest project was the removal of asbestos and lead-based paint from a navy tug boat while under complete containment.
Mr. Huson completed many college and short courses related to environmental services and obtained a California General Engineering Contractor’s A license with certifications in hazardous substance removal, asbestos, demolition and lead. |

Joel Burke, Estimator and Project Manager
Joel Burke brought nine years of construction experience when he joined Steamatic of Sacramento in September 2009 as an estimator and project manager. From January 2005 until June 2009, he and a partner operated their own construction company, Mr. Burke handled the estimating and job management for Rock Solid Development that began with residential remodeling and then transitioned to framing and finish carpentry on commercial projects, employing 20 at its peak.
Before that and immediately after graduating from Elk Grove High School in 2000, Mr. Burke worked for On the Mark Construction, a framing company that built track and custom homes in the Sacramento area. He had worked his way up to journeyman carpenter before his second year. He also has worked as a job foreman.
Mr. Burke’s work ethic surfaced early. He was only in seventh grade when he began helping his carpenter father at job sites and learning the trade. In eighth grade, he started washing dishes at an Elk Grove restaurant and was a cook by the time he was a senior.
As a young man, Mr. Burke also felt a calling to the ministry and was a group leader in the youth ministry at an Elk Grove church. There he mentored high school youth, prepared and taught weekly lessons, led discussions and trained other youth leaders. In fact, he was in the church’s first ministerial class, managing 16 hours of instruction a week for three years while also working full time. Mr. Burke also earned an Emergency Medical Technician certification at Consumnes River college.
Although he and his partner were only in their 20s, their construction company successfully bid work for well-known commercial entities ─ the finish carpentry at three Olive Garden restaurants and three KinderCare Learning Centers. Their biggest job, at $370,000, was the provision of the framing, metal stud and drywall work at a new Michael’s store in Lancaster. They also were the framing contractors for the remodel at the high school in Palmdale.
